My hamster's eye infection won't heal, eyelid bleeding. What now?

Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Male | neutered | 0.33 lbs

My hamster has had an eye infection for a couple of months and I've taken him to the vet 3 separate times and I've tried everything they have including eye drops 3 times a day. He still has the eye infection and now the bottom lid of him eye is starting to bleed. What do I do now? Is there anything I can do??

Thanks for reaching out about Baby and including a photo. Possibly this is not a simple infection and possible dental disease or a mass. Radiographs might help identify the condition more. Good luck.

    It is possible that Jacob has actually ruptured his eye. This can be very serious. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. my syrian hamster has a rough, red patch right underneath her eye. is this an eye infection? if so, what can i do to treat it?
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Freya. The picture appears to show a small wound below her eye. Is there any way that should have hurt herself? I do recommend that she sees a veterinarian. If she has an eye infection (I cannot tell from the picture), then pawing at the eye can make a wound below it. The veterinarian will examine her and determine if she needs a medication such as an antibiotic eye ointment or drop. I hope this information helps!

It is hard to tell based on the picture alone what exactly is going on with Meeko’s eye. There is almost certainly inflammation and infection present. Since the drops do not seem to be addressing the problem I would recommend taking Meeko in for a recheck examination. If your hamster has an infection inside the eye (as opposed to the outside/surface of the eye) she may need an oral antibiotic to help her get over it. Other concerns for an eye like this would be a cancer of the eye itself. If this is the case, the eye could be removed and your hamster would do just fine. In any case, I would recommend having a recheck done by a veterinarian that is comfortable seeing hamsters. It’s only been a couple days so don’t worry too much. Hopefully the problem will be addressed at your recheck appointment and hamster will do great. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco. If you have anymore questions please let us know. I’m sorry to hear that Amber isn’t feeling well! I’m not able to advise on what may be causing the condition without seeing a photo, but a bulging eye is likely to be painful. She may be causing further trauma by scratching the area. I recommend carefully trimming Amber’s nails to prevent her from scratching the area. This may help along with the antibiotics.

Your hamster needs a visit to a veterinarian (there are vets that see hamsters) because he may need an antibiotic or other medication to treat his eye and skin. In the meantime, you can use a clean soft cloth wet with water held over the eyelid to hopefully loosen the crusting holding the eyelids together.

Oh, wow, I looked at the picture and that looks really painful for your little Hammie. If he is swollen like that and having discharge, he really has to go to the vet and get some oral antibiotics and some special eye drops. He could lose his eye and really needs to have it looked at. You should not apply any human meds or any animal meds that are not prescribed for him. Certain ingredients could be toxic or they make the infection worse. In the meantime, you could try flushing it with a little bit of plain saline Eye Wash and using a cool compress or a wrung put cool wet washcloth to help with pain, swelling and reducing drainage.

Thanks for reaching out about Willow and including a photo. It is difficult to identify the cause in this picture but a swelling is obvious. Eye lid infections or abscesses, lacrimal duct obstruction, trauma, are all possible. A veterinary visit would most likely assist in a diagnosis and treatment plan. Hi. I have just biught a new hamster three days ago. Today, I noticed that her eye has turned pinkish rimmed, and wet. It looks a bit like an infection. What should I do?(I'm sorry if the photos are a bit blurry. She is still getting used to me.)
It does seems as Silva is suffering from an eye infection, you will need to take him to your vet ASAP in order to get the eyes checked, he will most likely need antibiotic eyedrops for a couple weeks.
