My senior dog has a painless ear lump. Is urgent vet care needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 11 years and 7 months old | 15 lbs

My 11.5yr old shih tzu appears to have developed a cyst by his left ear. He is completely unbothered by it and is behaving as he normally does happy go lucky, energetic, eating well, drinking well, regular bms etc. Is this something I should rush to our vet for before Christmas? We are short on funds due to my health causing recent hospitalizations and if it wouldn't hurt him I would wait until we are back on our feet. It is fluid filled, not attached to anything and can be moved freely painless

It would be best to have it looked at as soon as you can him examined. It may just be a cyst but it could also be an abscess or a tumor. I'm glad it is not bothering him but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not something worse than just a cyst.
