My dog has yellow eye discharge. What are treatments and costs?

Pet's info: Dog | Labradoodle | Male | neutered | 2 years and 2 months old | 60 lbs

Rumple seems to have an eye infection. It was originally only one eye that was producing yellow discharge, but now both eyes are. It seems to have occurred overnight as on Saturday both eyes were fine, but on Sunday I noticed a lot of discharge in one eye. What are the typical exams/ medications/ tests done for eye infections? How much should I estimate to have to pay for treatment/ tests? No current medications, no known allergies, no change in diet, approx. 65lbs

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Rumple. I agree, it does sound like he has an eye infection. Please know that prices vary between clinics, so I cannot give you an exact cost. An exam is typically between $45-$55. The vet will likely want to stain his eye with fluorescein to make sure there isn't a corneal ulcer, and will prescribe a topical medication for his eye. Those will be additional costs on top of the exam. I would expect to pay between $100-$200. Any eye problem is an emergency, so you need to take him into a vet now. Best of luck.

Unfortunately, it is hard to know how to best approach this at home as it is not possible to know what this is just by seeing a picture of the eye closed. However, the discharge you describe is concerning for an infection. This would require an examination. This could be something like an ulcer which may require antibiotics. An ulcer could in theory result in loss of the function of the eye if severe enough. You can always check with your local humane society as they may offer more affordable veterinary care. Hello. Rumple may have a mild case of conjunctivitis, a corneal scratch or even a foreign body like a weed seed or grass awn under the third eyelid. All of these can be quite irritating & produce the symptoms you describe. so it is probably best to have your vet take a look at the eye. How much would it cost to treat a kittens severe eye infection
Hi and thank you for posting your question on Boop by Petco! It is hard to say exactly what the problem with you cat's eye without examine your cat first. Diagnostics and treatment options as well as prices for those options are all dependent on individual veterinary hospital variation. Some hospitals are more expensive than others. An exam, eye exam, diagnostics may be (ballpark) around $100-$200. Treatment will depend on diagnosis and prognosis and may be $200-$2000. I hope this has helped. From the picture, both eyes look very swollen. Swelling of the eye in this way is very painful. I hope you can get her into see a veterinarian soon.

So my dog (6 month old Boxer mix) has a lot of yellow discharge out of his left eye. He has been pawing at it. This has been happening for 3 days now.I'm wiping the discharge every 15-20 minutes.

I recommend that you have them evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take him into the vet first thing in the morning. I hope this helps!

My dog has discharge in his eye
It's a little hard to see Cooper's eye in that picture. Usually discharge from just one eye can indicate a scratch on the cornea, an eye infection, uveitis, or a blocked tear duct. If he is squinting the eye, sensitive to light, tearing heavily or has any redness to the eye then he should be examined as soon as possible as this could be a scratch on the cornea or uveitis that needs to be addressed right away. Yellow or greenish discharge may indicate an infection and Cooper should be examined to decide if he needs eye drops. If it seems like everything else is normal and the discharge is mild and white in color this could be related to a blocked tear duct. In this case You can try using a sterile saline eye wash to flush his eye. However if the problem does not resolve in a day or two it would be best to have him checked out by your veterinarian. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Trouble! When it comes to eyes it is best to have them evaluated by a Vet. Medications need to be prescribed that are safe to be put in the eye. He likely has doggie pink eye, conjunctivitis or allergies. But he could have a corneal scratch, dry eye or even worse glaucoma or uveitis. There are no at home medications that are safe to put in the eye. You can warm compress the eye (be sure you can tolerate it on your skin) twice daily and try an antihistamine (read the below link). Our cat had kittens 10 days ago one of the kittens has a yellow discharge in one of his eyes. We wipe his eye out then it comes back later. What do we do? Please help? Also how do I find a Vet? Thier eyes jousted opened.

Keep in mind that some of these infections could be contagious if that is the case with him so it would be best to proceed as soon as possible with visit to a veterinarian and to try to keep him separate from the rest of the kittens until then. I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further therapy would be based on the findings. Hey, I was just getting a bit concerned Kali might have conjunctivitis as she’s had a lot of discharge in her eyes the past week... it’s also quite yellow, which I didn’t think was very healthy looking :/
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Kali is very cute. Green or yellow eye discharge isn’t normal. I would recommend you take Kali to a vet for a thorough eye exam. She could have a scratch or an eyelid irritation causing discharge and discomfort. There could also be an allergy causing irritation or an upper respiratory infection. Once a vet sees her they can do tests to rule out a scratch and get her eye medication to help her feel better. Good luck and kisses to Kali!
