My cat won't poop or drink water. Should I see an emergency vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 13 days old

Our vet has told us phoenix is depressed due to the loss of our kitten he was close with. One thing however has me concerned. Our vet will be closed due to the upcoming holiday but I know something's wrong. 1: hes not defecating. Its been 4 days and he can't/wont go. 2: he'll sit by the water dish and cry at it. He wont drink, he'll dip his lips in and lick them. Then he'll run to another water source and do the same, all day long. Is there anything we can do until we see the vet?

This is more than depression, there is something seriously wrong with Phoenix and he has to see a vet now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.
