My senior cat tucks chin & moves oddly. Is it age or a health issue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 8.5 lbs

My 10 year old cat just started tucking her chin all the way into her chest while looking up at nothing. She moves slowly in weird ways and then goes back to her normal behavior. Is this just her getting older and stretching differently or is this indicative of an issue that needs checking out? First picture is of here with her chin tucked and paw sticking straight out. The second is her paws in the air with her chin tucked. The third is her super tense while being still, notice her back paw

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Margot. This can be an indication of something that needs to be checked out. It could be that she is painful, and that is causing her to move slowly. I'd have her seen by a vet for this issue, and I recommend taking her into one in the morning. Best of luck.
