My dog had seizures after prednisone. Is it the allergy medicine?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | unneutered | 8 years and 4 months old | 80 lbs

My Golden is 8.5 years old and has taken prednisone for an allergy flare up. 20mg. After the 3rd day of taking 20mg 2 times daily he had a seizure for the 1st time then a second 16 hrs later. Can Prednisone induce seizures? My Vet wont give me a clear answer.

Prednisone is not likely to be the reason for the seizure but because of the fact the seizures happened so close to the treatment i would recommend discontinuing the prednisone treatment at the moment.
