My dog's puncture wound is bleeding after a fall. Is it serious?

My dog had a stick puncture thru the sheath of his penis 5 days ago. When I removed the stick there was no blood. It appeared to have gone thru his hide, but didn't puncture the muscle. He had clear liquid leaking out until he fell off the bed two bites ago. Now he's leaking bloody fluid. Could he have ruptured something with the fall? And how do I dress his wound? We just had a house fire so money is a huge problem at this time. But I'm desperate to help my baby!!!

There could have been internal damage from this stick puncture, and it's concerning that five days later, he's leaking bloody fluid. You have to have him seen by a vet for this. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. Hello, sorry to hear about Babe. I agree with you it doesn't look like it is bleeding and I could potentially be seeing something in the hole. The area appears to be quite deep and my biggest concern would be that it is going into her abdomen. This wound should be checked and managed by your veterinarian tonight to reduce the risk of an infection, especially if the wound is recent. If it is going into her abdomen, then she may need to have further diagnostics to exclude a foreign object within her abdomen. Depending on how old your veterinarian thinks this wound may be, they may chose to manage it as an open wound or close it with stitches. Hope this helps and best of luck.

That is a pretty deep wound that should be seen by a vet, If you cannot afford to go to a vet , do not use apple cider vinegar again as it may damage more tissue, Leave the wound alone and let it scab over and heal by itself. My dog has puncture wound on side I have no money to take to vet what to do.
HI, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Skip! Bite wounds are tricky. When a dog bites their teeth are designed to pull and tear so the punctures you see on the outside are just the tip of the iceberg: they tend to be worse under the skin. If Skip is acting fine then purchase an Elizabethan Collar (cone) for him to wear so he doesn't lick the wound. I recommend cleaning the wound well with mild soap and water. You can apply an antibiotic cream to the wound twice daily. You can also warm compress the area twice daily for 5 mins before putting the cream on. It is recommended to have the wound looked at by a Vet to assess whether the puncture should be surgically explored and if drains need to be placed. There are usually low cost Veterinary clinics associated with SPCA's. Skip likely at a minimum needs antibiotics and pain medications. Monitor the wound, if there is swelling, pain or yellow/green discharge Skip needs Veterinary care. Good luck!

Hi and thanks for posting! Sometimes bite wounds can leave pockets in the skin making the wound worse than they appear initially. It would be a good idea for this to be evaluated by a veterinarian. Your veterinarian will asses the area for pockets in the skin and asses whether or not stitches are needed. It seems small enough for tissue glue to be used but the wound may need to be closed with a stitch or two. A lot of bacteria is intro introduced into the skin and surrounding tissue during a bite. Brisquette may need systemic antibiotics as well to help lessen the chance of developing an infection. I hope this helps and thanks for using Boop by Petco!
