Is my ball python's rat bite wound infected after the scab came off?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My ball python got bit by a rat a while ago. It was a pretty bad wound but after applying painkiller free neosporin it continued to get better. Unfortunately, during her last she’s not to long ago, she pulled up the scab and when it came back it was much more red and bigger. I am still applying neosporin. My only worry is if it is infected. What do you think?

I think it looks like it is healing OK. Neosporin is not the best topical antibiotic for snakes but the scab looks fine, it does not look red or swollen. I would just keep doing what you are doing. If it starts to look worse, swollen, he is not eating, etc then you should have him to a vet for an exam.
