My dog has low fever. Vet gave antibiotics, but why no tests?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 25 days old

Took my dog to another doctor and he noticed Riko had low fever, but nothing else to worry him. He did give hime though an antibiotics injection and told us to control strictly his nutrition (we restricted him, as he has access in a yard) and to feed him only small portions of boiled chicken, every 2 hours for the next 24hours and call him tomorrow for follow up. He also (as the previous vet) thought there was no need for blood or other tests for the moment. Still worried, why no tests?

I am not sure why your vet did not feel like tests were needed. There are many patients I see where I don't think testing is needed. This is a question you will need to ask your vet. If Riko is not doing better then testing may be needed. If you voice your concerns to the vet I am sure they will be happy to run some testing if that will make you feel better. Hope this helps. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for Riko!
