Without examining Misty it is difficult to say for sure what this could be. I would suspect an abscess or reaction to something. I would recommend taking her in to be examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.

Hello. Is it possible that this is an abscess? If the puppy is nursing & acting well, you cam apply a warm compress to the lump for 10 minutes 3 times a day to see if this will bring things to a head. Ideally, the puppy should be evaluated by your veterinarian to see if this needs to be lanced. I do not recommend you doing this yourself because you have no way to know if you are opening an abscess, a lymph node or a salivary gland, & I am sure antibiotics may be necessary. If it opens on its own, keeping it very clean will help, but the puppy may still need to be on some antibiotics. If there is any way to have the puppy seen, I would do so soon. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
