Why is my ferret lethargic with weak legs and possibly constipated?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Ferret | Male | neutered | 2 years and 10 months old | 3 lbs

I have a 3 year old ferret who has had a sudden onset of lethargy. I have sleep issues and he was without water for probably around 12 hours but when I finally got to him he seemed fine. Hes showing signs of weakness in his hind legs, appears to be in no pain after a physical examination by myself. He may be constopated as I havent seen any "results" from him over the last few hours and the area around his anus feels like a firm lump along with his naval line feeling firm

Hello. We do see several conditions & diseases in ferrets as they age, so it would be best to have Busta evaluated by your veterinarian. I do not think not having access to water for 12 hours caused any problems, it may just be coincidental that he feel ill after this. Do have him seen as soon as you can in case he does need some further testing or treatment. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
