My dog has liquid poop. What can I do to help him before the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 5 years and 8 months old | 13 lbs

Crowley is having issues defecating yesterday and today. It’s coming out in small liquid clumps. I planning on taking him to a vet on Wednesday but is there anything I can do to help him in the meantime?

You could try feeding him a bland diet like boiled chicken and plain white rice if he’ll eat it. Your vet might be able to send you with a digestive diet if Crowley is an established patient and current on his physical exam. Otherwise there isn’t much to do until his visit. If the diarrhea is getting worse you may want to see if you can move his appointment up.
