Can my aging dog with back pain use CBD drops for better sleep?

My 13 1/2 year old toy poodle (11 lbs) has back issues and needs something to help him sleep at night. Can he have CBD drops and what would the dosage be?

As of yet, we have very little research on CBD oil in veterinary patients, so we cannot make any recommendations one way or the other about this product - we do not know what an appropriate dose might be, and if there are any potential health concerns or drug interactions in dogs. In addition, because it's a schedule 1 drug, it's illegal for us to prescribe or recommend. I would speak to Rascal's vet about getting prescription drugs prescribed to help with his pain.

You do need to have Zoe seen by a vet to see if there is anything that can be given to her to make her more comfortable. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. Best Friends also has a list of resources that offer financial assistance on their website. I'd also see if you can borrow money from family and friends. http://www.humanesociety.org/

Hank is a 13 year old doggie. He has issues with walking in bare floors, and due to this, has set up camp in the hallway. I have been giving him CBD oil so it might help some of his anxiety. Am I doing the right thing?

My 19 y.o. Dachshund started waking up at 4-5a.m. and barking to go out, go potty. Will hemp oil/cbd oil help keep him asleep? He falls asleep just fine all day long.
Poor Malcolm and poor you! I'm sure that is really disrupting your sleep. In addition, because it's a schedule 1 drug, it's illegal for us to prescribe or recommend. He is an old dog, so it may be it's harder for him to hold his bladder, which would be why he's getting up so early to go potty. I would walk him right before bedtime to see if that helps. It also may be that he is suffering from canine cognitive dysfunction, which is an age related decline in cognitive functioning, one sign of which can be less sleeping at night. I would have him seen by a vet for this issue, as there are changes that can be made to his diet which can help canine cognitive dysfunction (if he has it). I hope this helps!

Is CBD oil or hemp oil better/more effective for a dog with anxiety?
I can't say to be honest. In addition, because it's a schedule 1 drug, it's illegal for us to prescribe or recommend. I do find a DAP diffuser is helping for dogs with anxiety, as well as a Sentry calming collar.
