My chameleon is thin with ribs showing and mouth open. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Reptile | Chameleon | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 20 days old

My chameleon has been sleeping with his mouth open and even when he is walking around his terrarium he keeps his mouth opens. I have even notice that you can see his ribs through his skin but he hasn't lost appetite I am worried about him.

Thanks for reaching out about Pascal and including photos. He does appear thin as ribs are evident but also spine and cask on head. A veterinary visit is recommended for multiple reasons: (1) Determine cause of loss of body condition which could be intestinal parasites or infection, metabolic disorders and others; (2) Review husbandry and diet as optimal temperature, humidity and nutrition is needed for health. Good luck.
