Gently wash the area with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep it clean and dry, and monitor for signs of infection. If you do see infection (redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, pus), then have Snuggle seen by a vet.

Clip the nail carefully. If there is bleeding, gentle pressure and some Quik Stop powder or plain cornstarch should stop it. Clean daily with a diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) solution. A dab of a triple antibiotic may be applied if necessary. Monitor for redness, swelling or lethargy. If she won't allow you to clip the nail, she may need to be seen by your veterinarian. Clip the other nails a bit to prevent snagging.

You can wash it with mild soapy water (dawn dish soap works well) if she'll let you, and then monitor the nail bed for redness, swelling, or discharge that would indicate infection. If she won't let you wash it, she will likely clean it herself. Mild nail bed injuries often resolve just fine on their own, but do watch for evidence of infection which would require a trip to the vet. Hope this helps.

Hi there. You could try putting a sock or dog boot on her foot to try to protect it. Rinsing a few times a day to keep it clean is important too. He has his nail bed on one of his nails a bit injured I think, the nail is fine but it looks like he had dried up blood. He is an outdoor dog so I am not sure how he injured himself. What can I do a home to help heal it?
Gently clean the area with warm water and antiseptic soap. Monitor it for signs of infection such as pus, swelling, warmth to the touch, and redness. Also monitor Scooby for limping, which means he is in pain. If you see any of those signs, have him seen by a vet.

We just noticed that it looks like our dogs dew claw is exposed? We haven’t noticed any bleeding at all and just wondering what to do now?
It looks like it's broken off. Just keep an eye on it for now. Gently clean the area with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep him from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. Best of luck.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! There is really not much more you can do at home. You have done a good job so far. Now this is likely going to continue to improve slowly but it will take time to do so. If he appears to be painful, it would be best to go to a veterinarian as they can proceed to cut the rest of the nail so it heals quicker and also send him home on pain control medications. Ok so Missi broke her nail/claw somehow (I don’t know how she did it). It’s not bleeding. But I’m unsure what to do since it looks like the inside of her nail looks likes it exposed. What should I do ?
Ouch! You can try trimming the nail back to the quik (exposed part) to avoid it being snagged on anything else and breaking further, and then keep it clean and dry (and keep Missi from licking it). if it begins to bleed, splits further, looks infected or is very painful, you may need to bring Missi to your vet to have it trimmed back more under anesthesia and pain meds and antibiotics given to help it heal.

Usually once the nail falls off they are much more comfortable. Make sure to keep the nail bed clean by soaking in a small tub of warm water and Epsom salts a few times a day. Within several days it will harden and with in a few weeks you should notice the nail starting to regrow. My dog will not walk on her right paw. After looking at her paw we noticed that her nail is torn off and the other is cracked. We are not sure how this happened. It there home care we can do for her?
As long as there is no active bleeding, you can try soaking her paw in a warm water bath with Epsom Salt for 5-10 minutes, twice a day. This can help soothe some of the tenderness associated with the torn nail. Do this daily and limit her activity until this area heals.

My dog's front paws are swollen and a bit bloodied. The left one seems to be caused by a broken nail. What can I do to clean and treat it, and what can I give him to help with the swelling?
Broken nails are quite painful. The bleeding tells me the quick is involved, which is the blood supply as well as nerve supply, so he may not let you touch it. Ideally the broken part should be removed but this often requires sedation by a vet. I recommend soaking his paw in an epsom salt tub for 5-10 minutes 2-3 times daily to clean it, draw out discharge, and help soften any part of the nail that is compromised. Watch for swelling or discharge that would indicate infection (and would require a vet visit). Unfortunately there is no human drug that is safe to give him for pain & inflammation but a vet could provide you with something. Again, these are painful especially if the quick is exposed so he will be tender until the broken part has come off and the exposed quick has hardened. Hope this helps.
