One of my dogs ate a malt loaf with raisins. What to do immediately?

I have 3 dogs so don't know which one got hold of it. One of them have got hold of and eaten a dumpling loaf (malt loaf) which contains raisins and sultanas (1 cup fill of each). It wasn't the full loaf but just looking for some advice on what to do? None of them are showing any obivious symptoms. The two we think it was weigh 17kg and 13kg.

That's a lot of raisins. There is no known safe amount of raisins for dogs to eat. There is always a possibility of kidney failure. The (major) problem with treating these guys is that you don't know if it's going to cause kidney failure until it's too late. They don't act different or ill until they are life threateningly ill. I'd take them into a vet immediately for treatment.

    There is no known safe amount of raisins for dogs to eat. There is always a possibility of kidney failure. The (major) problem with treating these guys is that you don't know if it's going to cause kidney failure until it's too late. They don't act different or ill until they are life threateningly ill. You need to take her into a vet immediately for treatment.

My dog ate a slice of raisin bread. Is it ok?
No. Raisins can cause severe kidney damage with as little as 1 or 2 ingested. The exact amount and mechanism is unknown. Ideally, Yellow should be seen by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. Either can induce vomiting via injection as long as it has been less than two hours since ingestion. Activated charcoal may be given afterwards to further reduce absorption. Kidney function may need to be monitored until such time when your vet can determine function was not compromised.

My dog just ate 1 chocolate covered raisin. Will he be alright??
These are tough situations. The chocolate probably isn't a big concern, but it's the raisin I'm more worried about, for their potential to cause kidney failure in dogs. My best recommendation to you at this point is to seek emergency care. If it's only been an hour, it's likely that inducing vomiting cause Max to bring up the raisin, and no further problems will result. Unfortunately, we don't understand the toxic dose of raisins (or grapes) in dogs, and we don't even know what it is in them that causes kidney failure. I'd try to get it out of him now. The vet can give a medication to make him vomit quickly and safely.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Unfortunately, there is no dose amount that we know is the toxic level for pets. One dog could eat one raisin and get sick and another dog could eat a 3 pound bag and not get sick. It sounds like Punkin got lucky. You can continue to monitor for vomiting, diarrhea or lethargy and take her to the vet if noted. Raisins can cause kidney disease so if you want to be thorough, you can take her to the vet for blood work to check her kidney function. Good luck and kisses to Punkin!

Since we don't know the exact amount of raisins needed to cause kidney failure, it is always best to seek veterinary care immediately. Unless Dahlia is in congestive heart failure, I would not see a reason to prevent induction of vomiting in a vet office. I am sorry to hear about your puppy. Unfortunately raisins can be toxic to the kidneys of some dogs and even in small amounts (there isn't necessarily a dose- related toxicity so we cannot say if they just ate a few they will be ok, and some dogs are very sensitive while others don't have toxic effects, much is still not known about the mechanism). I would recommend bringing your puppy into the vet right away. They can check her kidney values, give her IV fluids for kidney support and give her medication to help with GI upset.
