This is a sign of an ear infection. Ear infection in dogs can be caused by ear mites (typically puppies), yeast, and bacteria. You need to have Chloe seen by a vet to have this diagnosed and treated. Leaving this untreated can lead to hearing loss.

    This can be a sign that Sadie has an ear infection. Ear infections in dogs can be caused by yeast, bacteria, or ear mites. You will need to take her into the vet, who can diagnose if she does have an ear infection, what's causing it, and can treat it. Please take her into a vet in the morning. Best of luck.

Ear infections can be caused by bacterial or fungal infection, or parasitic infections (like ear mites, as you mentioned) or a combination of these, and can be associated with dietary or environmental allergies or sensitivities, immune system disorders, or a combination of the above. Daisy needs to see a vet to have an ear swab done. Your vet can look at the sample under the microscope and treat appropriately based on what is found. Your vet will also need to examine the ear with a scope to see if the ear drum is intact, as some medications cannot be used safely if the eardrum is ruptured. Ear infections can be very painful, and can sometimes progress to include the middle or inner ear, where they can cause neurologic signs or permanent hearing loss. Please book an appointment to have Daisy seen as soon as possible to help get her feeling better.

Why is twinkle scratching behind her ears
It may be that she has an ear infection (due to bacteria or yeast), or she may have ear mites. Ideally, take her to the vet, as he or she will be able to diagnose the cause and give you medication to effectively treat it. Ear mites or ear infection (bacterial or yeast) can easily be diagnosed by your veterinarian. What is needed is an exam followed by an exam of a swab taken from the ears. Your vet can then dispense the appropriate medication. It can take 7-14 days to resolve either type of infection.

Why is my dog suddenly excessively shaking her ears? I tried wiping them out with a paper towel and it gave her no relief.
This is a sign of an ear infection. In dogs, ear infections can be caused by yeast or bacteria. Any ear problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to hearing loss. I'd take May into the vet in the morning to get this diagnosed and treated. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Typically dogs don’t have ear mites. If he is scratching at the ears, he could have an ear infection, a wax build up deep down, other skin mites that are microscopic or maybe allergies. I recommend taking him to the vet so they can look deep inside with a scope. They may have to test for an infection or try different medications. Once they look inside his ears and at the rest of his body they can give you a better diagnosis and treatment plan. Good luck and kisses to Chewy!

My 3 yr old CHIHUAHUA is constantly scratching inside his ear for long periods of time, I can't see anything but it sounds squishy, it does not seem to have an odor , and he won't let us near them
Poor Major! Excessive scratching of one or both ears is a common sign of an ear infection. You will need prescription ear meds from your veterinarian in order to treat this problem, so I would recommend taking him in for an exam when you are able to.

This could be certainly a sign of ear infection. External ear infections are diagnosed based on otoscopic exam of the ear and ear cytology. For cytology, your veterinarian will take a sample of the debris in the ear and examine it under the microscope to look for yeast, bacteria and mites. Treatment varies depending on the severity of the disease. In external ear infections, a topical antibacterial/antifungal medication will be prescribed for treatment. Your veterinarian may also prescribe a medicated ear flush to remove debris. In mild middle ear infections, oral or injectable antibiotics are often used in combination with topical medications. I would recommend a check up to confirm this clinical suspicion and treat appropriately.
