My Chihuahua is vomiting, won't eat, has black poop after antibiotics.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 4 years and 11 months old | 8 lbs

My Chihuahua started with hives and itchy patches, then after being given an antibiotic started vomiting. She now has black tar-like poop, won't eat but will drink. Today after drinking she vomited what smelled like baby barf. What could be wrong with her? I even tried to give her something simple like rice to eat but she won't eat it for the past day and a half

Poor Mimi  The hives and itchy patches can be caused by an allergic reaction, and antibiotics can cause vomiting as a side effect. What I'm concerned about is the black poop, which indicates bleeding from the upper GI tract. She sounds very sick, and you cannot treat this at home. Please take her into a vet immediately.
