My dog has lumps near kidneys & fur changed. Should I see a vet now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Female | spayed | 4 years and 8 months old

My dog seems to have bilateral lumps where her kidneys (I think?) are. The groomer also noted that her fur has changed texture too. No other symptoms. I have a vet appointment for Dec 11 but concerned that she should be seen sooner.

I think it is OK for her to wait til the 11th for her appointment as long as she is not acting sick. From the photos it appears that those are just fat pads or fatty tumors but it is best to have a vet examine her in person to tell you for sure. You would not be able to palpate the kidneys like that - they are inside the abdomen, not external where you are feeling. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
