My pregnant dog's puppies are moving a lot. Is she giving birth soon?

My dog is pregnant and I think close to having her puppies they are moving around like crazy In her belly does that mean she will have them soon?

You can see puppies moving up to a week before giving birth. Take Bell's temperature rectally twice a day. A dog's normal temperature is between 101-102.5F. Once it drops below 100F, she should have her puppies within 24 hours.

my dog is 60 days pregnant and her temperature has changed from 99.6 down to 99.1 and back to 100 what does that mean? this is her second litter and the puppies are moving ALOT in her belly.
A pregnant dog's temperature will often dip down up to 48 hours before going into labor. It usually drops to 98-99, then will go back up to normal (100-102). I would watch Tobie for any other signs of labor. If she hasn't had any puppies in 48 hours, it may be best to have her examined by the vet.

Great question! Once her temperature drops below 100F, Bell should give birth to her puppies in 24 hours. If 24 hours pass after the initial temperature drop with no sign of puppies, she will need to see a vet immediately, as she will need help giving birth to them safely.

Her rectal temperature will be below 100.0 when she is within 24 hrs of her due date. So she has a ways to go still. Her digging seems like early preparation at this point. It is good that you have a whelping box already. : ) There is no way of knowing how long she has until her rectal temperature is below 100.0, so its best to check this daily. When a dog's temperature drops below 100F, they should give birth to puppies within 24 hours. Keep an eye on her, and if 24 hours pass with no sign of puppies, bring her into the vet for a health check. Hopefully she should be able to push out her puppies safely. Best of luck.

It is possible. the only way to know for sure is to have her x-rayed by your veterinarian. This would be recommended anyway so you know how many pups to expect. Since she is so close, start monitoring her body temperature. Use a rectal thermometer with sterile lube. Normal temp ranges from 100 F to 102.5 F. In most cases, labor will begin within 24 hours of a drop below 100 F.

Not all dogs will have a noticeable drop. A better way would be to monitor Roxie's temp twice daily. This can be done with a rectal thermometer and sterile lube. A dog averages 63 days gestation. Normal temp is between 100F and 102.5F. Once you see a drop below 100F, labor typically follows in the next 24 hours.
