My dog ate crackers and has diarrhea. Is this a normal upset stomach?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 3 years and 6 months old | 90 lbs

Last night I was eating two Lunchables and ran to go to the bathroom. When I came back, Jax had eaten all the crackers from both sets. This morning, his poop was soft and now it's a little watery. He'll go out and try to poop and nothing will come out except for a strands. Because I think he cleaned out his system earlier when he was first out and his stomach is just still agitated. But I'm still worried, or is this a normal upset stomach for what he ate? No vomiting.

This is probably just from him getting something rich he was not used to eating. I would keep an eye on things, as long as he improves and is back to normal in a day or so, not to worry. However, if he is lethargic, starts to vomit, the loose stool/diarrhea continues, is not interested in food, or anything else that seems abnormal for him, get him in to be seen by your vet as there may be something more than a brief dietary indiscretion going on.
