Why does my dog have raised spots after vet visit for allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 15 lbs

Hi, I took my dog to the vet yesterday because she was having skin allergies and her right eye was slightly swollen. The Dr said it's just skin allergies and gave us a topical ointment for her eye for 5 days and said i could give her benadryl. Today her skin appears to have raised spots that weren't there yesterday? Opinions?

I am sorry to hear about your concerns for Lily! It looks like she could have developed hives https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/allergic-reactions-hives-and-swelling-of-the-face/ . Sometimes in addition to benadryl these dogs do also need steroids, so I would call your vet and let them know about this change because they may want to see her again or to change her medication. I would also consider bathing her in case the hives were a reaction to a plant she came into contact with if she spends time outdoors.
