Will my kitten's fur revert to normal after frostbite damage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 10 months and 21 days old | 2.5 lbs

My black and white kitten was a rescue with frostbite and hypothermia. He was very lucky and is doing well. The tip of his tail fell off when he was five weeks but is healing nicely. Now his tail is turning white or grey at eight weeks and he is getting a grey stripe along his back. The fur on his eyebrows and ears is thinning. Will this revert or grow back normally?

Probably not. Unfortunately with frost bite the hair follicles are usually damaged so either the hair will not grow back at all or it will grow back an abnormal color. It is just cosmetic though. It is not harmful to him in any way.
