My dog ate almond granola and plastic. Does she need an emergency vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 9 months old | 50 lbs

My dog who will be 2 in January ate an entire 11.2 oz bag of bear naked honey almond granola. She got it off the counter and chewed the bag up to pieces and ate everything in the bag. I’m not sure if she ate any of the plastic packaging since it was all torn up I couldn’t tell if it was all there but she might’ve eaten some of that too. I know almonds are bad for dogs and she has a sensitive stomach as it is. This happened within the last 5 hours. Should I take her to the emergency vet?

Almonds are not toxic to dogs and I wouldn’t think there is anything in this granola that would be dangerous. It could cause stomach upset but seeing an emergency vet now probably wouldn’t change much - I’d just monitor her for any vomiting or diarrhea and take her to a vet for symptomatic treatment if it occurs. I don’t think there is anything preventative to do.
