My Shih Tzu yelps when touched, shakes, and won't eat. Is he hurt?

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | unneutered | 19 lbs

Since yesterday my male 4 year old shitzu bandit has been acting strange. He just lays around and hardly eats. He is shaking and yelps when you touch his side by his hind leg. I'm not sure if he is hurting or got a bite of some sort? I know he doesnt do this normally

Bandit could have hurt his leg, and he must be in a lot of pain if he's barely eating and laying around. Given his current symptoms, I think it's best if he sees a vet now. I'd take him into one immediately.

Poor Belle! It sounds like she is experiencing some pain and she could have a problem with her back or possibly abdominal pain. In order to diagnose, she needs to be examined by a vet to localize the source if the pain. She may need an anti-inflammatory and pain medications to help treat the problem. You should restrict her activity until she is seen by a vet; no running, jumping, etc. Hope she feels better soon!

My shih tzu was doing fine in the morning and randomly during the day he started shaking at times and all he does is sleep and he doesnt move much. He also hides in the corners at times and doesnt want to eat or drink. What could be the problem?
I am sorry to hear that Junior isn’t feeling well. Those symptoms are pretty vague and can be associated with many different problems. I would be suspicious about neck and back pain, but nausea and abdominal pain could be possible as well. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Poor girl. She is likely in pain from the leg and that is why she was shaking. As long as she isn't screaming out in pain, having a seizure, or having severe lethargy, you should be able to wait until morning to get her seen by your regular vet. Until you can get her in, just let her rest in a cozy quiet area of the house and leash her whenerever she goes outside to keep her from causing further injury to the leg. The vet will likely do an x-ray of her leg or bloodwork if the issue seems to be neurologic in nature. I hope that Sasha's injuries get resolved soon! Best of luck and take care.

By your description, he may have hip, knee or low back pain. You will need to have him physically examined by your veterinarian to definitively diagnose the underlying cause This may require x-rays. Given current events, you may need to drop him off at the clinic, then wait for your veterinarian to call you to discuss exam findings and treatment options. Pain medication can be dispensed if indicated. Do not medicate him without the advice of your veterinarian. Many OTC medications can be toxic or are easily overdosed.

My dog is shivering constantly on and off for the last few hours. He is crying constantly and very sluggish & antisocial which is not normal.
Poor pup! Shaking is a common sign of pain or discomfort in dogs, which could also cause him to be crying, acting lethargic, and not very social. Unfortunately, these are very vague symptoms that could be caused by almost anything, so it's hard to say what might be causing this without being able to examine him. Many dogs with back pain due to a pinched nerve or herniated disc will act this way, so this is certainly a possibility; he could also have abdominal pain, or some other type of injury that isn't visible from the outside. Since it sounds like he's very painful and the underlying problem may be serious, I would really recommend taking him to a vet right away - he/she can do x-rays or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.

Poor Takumi. If you tried offering him chicken and he won't eat, that tells me he is quite sick and cannot be treated at home. He needs to see a vet immediately to get this diagnosed and treated. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck.

It sounds like he has injured his leg/pelvis and yes if he is reluctant to move he should be assessed by a vet for pain relief and possibly xrays to rule out a fracture or dislocation. Keep him well rested and prevent any jumping, slipping or falling which may further aggravate any injury he may have until you can have him fully assessed

I was coming down the stairs yesterday and heard my dog yelp. Since then he has not gone to the bathroom or eaten or had anything to drink. He stays in one spot trembling. I don't know what happened to him.
Poor baby. It sounds like he may have injured something. It is common for them to injure their back or neck and act this way. I would have your vet look st him today. Your vet will be able to localize the pain and give him the appropriate pain meds to help him feel better. If it is his lower back, you vet may also prescribe him a stool softener so it is easier for him to have a bowel movement. Your vet will also be able to do X-rays if needed. I do not recommend to give any human pain meds as most of these are toxic to dogs. I hope this helps and he starts to feel better soon!

Poor Skiba! If he is shaking and acting depressed then he really should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. He could have a problem with his back or neck causing him discomfort. Your vet can prescribe an anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxer, and/or pain medications, if needed, to help make him more comfortable. Call your vet and schedule an appointment as soon ad possible. Poor Tigs! It definitely sounds like something is wrong. Unfortunately, these are very vague symptoms that could be caused by almost any kind of medical problem - shaking, acting lethargic, and not eating are generally signs of pain or discomfort, but beyond that he would need an exam and some diagnostic testing to determine what's wrong. I would recommend taking him to the vet today to be seen. He/she can do blood work, x-rays, or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem.
