What are white bubbles under my dog's regrowing nail after removal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 6 years and 9 months old | 15 lbs

My dog had to have a nail removed 2 weeks ago. It was broken at the base and so she clipped it off down to the quick. She has taken all of her antibiotics correctly and worn her Elizabeth collar. The nail is growing back, however, there are white hard bubbles underneath the nail. Should I be concerned by these? Attached are photos.

I would be somewhat concerned about this. It is hard to tell from the photos but it looks like the toe is still swollen? If that is the case, this could be just more than a broken nail - some tumors arise from the nail bed. I suggest you have her back to your vet for a follow-up exam.
