My budgie has an egg stuck to her chest. Is the chick alive or dead?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 0.0661 lbs

My budgie laid two eggs about 15 days ago, today she came out of the nest with one egg stuck to her chest, i know that both eggs had chicks in them and were fertile, is that normal or is the baby dead?! Im afraid if its not dead that it might drop and break since she keeps flying around alot..

Thanks for reaching out about Bounty. You probably need to catch her and gently removed the egg, and then determine whether it is viable still. This would be a good time the check the nest for the other egg. There is concern, the egg is stuck to her feathers due to leaking yolk. Good luck.
