My dog ate an extra Simparica Trio pill. Is it an emergency?

Pet's info: Dog | Basset Hound | Female | spayed | 3 years and 8 months old | 28 lbs

Belly ate her own simperica trio pill (for dogs 22-44lb) and accidentally ALSO ate my other dog's simperica trio pill (for dogs 11-22lb). How bad is this for Belly? Something we need to go to the emergency vet for??

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Belly. She should be ok. According to studies done by Zoetis who make Simparica, "In the overdose groups, transient and self-limiting neurological signs were observed in some animals: mild tremors at 3 times the maximum exposure dose and convulsions at 5 times the maximum exposure dose. All dogs recovered without treatment." You don't need to do anything. I hope this helps!

My 12 pound maltipoo snatched up and ate my 50# dog’s Simparica! It was for 44.1-88 pound dog. Should I be concerned???
Simparica has a wide margin of safety, but Abby ingested 4 times her normal dose. You may see tremors or convulsions within the next 24 hours. These symptoms are typically self limiting and, in safety studies, resolved without treatment. Ideally, she should be examined at the nearest veterinary ER. Vomiting can be induced via injection followed by administration of activated charcoal to further reduce absorption. This is most effective when done within an hour or two of ingestion. There is no antidote for sarolaner (the active ingredient in Simparica) overdose, so treatment is largely supportive and symptomatic until recovery is complete. This may include IV fluids and medications to control tremors or convulsions if they develop.

Hi I have my dog a dose of simparica. He's about 30kg and the dude is 80mg. I can't find the packet and an panicking as he may have ingested 4 more tablets. What should I do?
Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. If Henk ingested the tablets in the last 1-2hrs, you should take him to your local vets right away to induce vomiting. If it was longer than 2hrs, making him vomit would not be recommended. If that is the case, you should monitor Henk at home for symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite, tremors, problems with balance. If you notice any of these symptoms, you will have to get him to your local vets as soon as possible.

So I have a puppy and an adult dog I gave the puppy (6/7 months) the adult simparica trio drug and the adult one the Puppy one without realizing it. My mom had them out of cases and I thought they were the same it was the 11ib one and the 22-44 pound
Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. You should monitor Purl for symptoms of vomiting, lethargy, lack of appetite, tremors, problems with balance. If you notice any of these signs, you should get your puppy checked by your local vets right away. According to the manufacturer's data the symptoms are NOT likely to develop after ingesting this dose. You should give your bigger dog another tablet to get the right dose for 22-44 pound weight (that should be 24mg of sarolaner, moxidectinum 0.48mg and pyrantelum 100mg).

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! She should be fine. I recommend in the future to give medications in a little bit of food and watch to be sure the correct dog gets the medication. Pill pockets are also nice. Or feed them in separate rooms until they are done and you know the pills have been eaten. Have a good night!

Hi there. Trifexis has a very wide margin of safety (a dog could eat an entire box and not have any serious issues, in most cases), so it's unlikely that this will cause any problems. The most likely side effect would be vomiting or GI upset, in the first day or two after taking the meds. If she's acting normal so far, you probably won't see any issues at all. It's fine for her to continue with her normal daily routine as far as eating, exercising, etc.

Hello. I would not be concerned. All of these prodcts have been rigourously tested & significant overdoses are a routine part of this testing. Often, 5x the regular dose will be given for weeks & no adverse effects are noted. So a small onetime overdose that your little schnauzer got will not bother her one bit. I accidentally gave my dog an extra dose of Apoquel and wanted to know if she will be ok.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! There is very little information available in the literature about overdosage of this drug. However, there was a study were dogs received 6 times the normal dose for several weeks and mostly only gastrointestinal signs such as vomiting, diarrhea and inappetence were observed. I think that Tippy is most likely going to be just fine though keep a close eye on her and if any of the clinical signs described above are observed, have her evaluated by your veterinarian. Hi! I think one of my dogs may have eaten some of my other dogs drugs. He polished off her food that she left unbeknownst this me. She is on 200 mg of zonisimide, 100 mg of minocycline, 500 mg of niacinamide, and 50 mg of carprofen per meal (2x/day).
Hello, and thank you for using Boop by Petco. Uh oh, naughty dog! Fortunately, your dogs are close enough in size that I’m not worried about an overdose, and a single dose of these medications shouldn’t cause a major problem for him. However, I would recommend touching base with your Vet since they know his specific history, and watch for symptoms of GI upset that can occur with any new medication. Hope this helps.
