My dog's neuter incision is dry and bloody. Is it healing normally?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 2 months and 2 days old | 60 lbs

Hi! My dog was neutered 3 days ago and we’ve been trying our best to keep him calm but he’s a very active dog. I just wanted to know if his incision looks normal or too bloody?? The blood is dry but I’m worried. Thank you!

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The incision, from what I can see of it from this photo, looks OK to me. The blood looks dried and the incision does not look open. It is really imperative that you try to keep him calm and keep a cone collar on him to prevent him from licking the incision. He can have controlled exercise meaning you can take him for walks. We just don't want him running around freely and jumping/playing. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
