My cat with FeLV has a sensitive ear. Could it be an infection?

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

My cat has feline leukemia and she is 5 years old. She became overheated and we've been pushing fluids and she's eating drinking and urinating. We've also been giving her Viralysis. She had began to hold her right ear down and it is sensitive to touch. I'm trying to get a prescription for ClavMox to see if this will help. I believe she's got an ear infection or similar.

I'm so sorry that Kiki isn't doing well at the moment. Ear infections in cats can be caused by bacteria, yeast, or ear mites, so it's extremely important to get the cause of the ear infection diagnosed in order for the cat to be treated properly. Only a vet can do this, and then the vet can prescribe the correct treatment. In addition, it's illegal for us to write a prescription from this site without seeing your cat in person. I would give her vet a call now to get her an appointment today. Best of luck.

Ear infections in cats can also be caused by yeast or bacteria, and are more common causes of ear infections in adult cats. Ear mites are more common in kittens. In order to treat Belle properly, she does have to see a vet, and vets will see pets for sickness. This counts, as leaving it untreated can lead to hearing loss. Give her vet a call to make her an appointment.

It appears that your kitten has an ear infection. This could be caused by mites, bacteria or a fungus. She will need to be seen by a veterinarian who will examine the ear with an otoscope, and he will take a swab of the discharge of the ear and look at it under the microscope. This should help with diagnosing the cause. Your kitty will then get medicine according to the diagnosis, usually ear drops. The ear will also need to be cleaned by the vet

It sounds like Lily has an ear infection, which could be caused by ear mites, yeast, or bacterial. I would have her seen by a vet tomorrow, as the cause of the ear infection would need to be diagnosed in order to treat her properly. The vet can diagnose if she does have an ear infection, the cause of it, and can prescribe treatment for it.

My cats ears have been bothering her for a bit now. Her ear looks clean but when I look into the base/ear canal its dirty and dark. She is very uncomfortable with me messing with or touching her ears. Shes been laying in her litterbox for about 3 day
It's probably an ear infection, often it cannot be seen from the outside. Ear infections are very common in cats, it is usually caused by either yeast, ear mites or bacterial disease. the treatment is usually simple and straightforward, you will have to take her to the vet and get the ears checked, then a prescription ear drops will be prescribed according to the infectious agent.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Oreo. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. Inner ear infections result in vestibular signs such as loss of balance, circling and eye problems. If so, she will need oral antibiotics. In some cases, anti-nausea medications are prescribed as well. I hope this information helps!

Ear infections can be caused by bacterial, parasitic or fungal infection, or a combination of these, and can be associated with dietary or environmental allergies or sensitivities, immune system disorders, or a combination of the above. If the Surolan helped but the infection has returned, Melcho needs to see a vet to have an ear swab done. Your vet can look at the sample under the microscope and treat appropriately based on what is found. Trying different medications without testing to determine the cause is not effective, and can lead to bacterial resistance to medication. Your vet will likely need to examine the ear with a scope to see if the ear drum is intact, as some medications cannot be used safely if the eardrum is ruptured. They may also recommend a culture and sensitivity test of a swab from the ear to help figure out what specific bacteria could be present and what medications they are sensitive to. 17 yrold cat falls over, seems related to weakness in front legs. Vet discovered ear infection. 2 weeks of antibiotics seemed to clear it, but after it comes back. She's got poor balance, not responding when called, eats & goes to bathroom normally--
If the antibiotics are helping, it's probably a middle ear infection indeed. a sample needs to be taken from the ear and sent for culture and sensitivity, then the best antibiotic can be chosen according to the result. the course of treatment must be longer next time, at least 4 weeks as these infections take a long time to resolve.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. If Mimi is scratching one ear more than usual, it is likely that she has an ear infection. Ear infections can be bacterial and/or fungal in origin. If left untreated, simple external ear infections can progress to middle or inner ear infections, leading to vestibular disease or even central nervous system signs. I recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian to have Mimi checked for an ear infection. He/she will likely perform an ear cytology, meaning he/she will swab her ear and look at the material under a microscope. This way, your veterinarian can look for evidence of bacteria and/or yeast and treat her accordingly. I hope this is helpful!

It is difficult to diagnose an ear infection without examining the discharge under a microscope to see if there are any bacteria, yeast, or mites. Based on the pictures, it does not appear to be a large amount of discharge. There aren't any OTC ear medications for infections but you could clean the ear with just an ear cleaner labeled for cats and see if that helps. Clean three times a week for now and then once weekly and see if that gets rid of all the discharge. If not, he really needs to go to a vet for treatment.
