Is a tiny hole in my puppy's spay incision normal after 5 days?

My puppy was spayed five days ago. The incision is about a inch long. A tiny hole is visible with no blood. I believe a scab was there

Hi and thanks for your request. The skin seems healing normally, the small gap is not concerning at this stage. the redness is due to mild inflammation. there are no indications of delayed or abnormal healing or infection. Please rest her as much as possible for the next 4-5 days and discourage any licking.

    The little spot is most likely a piece of suture material that was used to close the abdomen or the skin. It should fell out by itself (typically suture materials dissolve within 4-6 weeks post surgery). Most likely it will not be a big problem for Elara but it may take another few weeks to disappear. The rest of the wound healed very nicely.

From what I can see in the photo, this looks like a pretty normal spay incision. :) You can use a warm washcloth to gently clean off the crusty bits. I don't see any redness or swelling around the incision, and no evidence of bleeding or drainage. Feel free to post another photo once you've cleaned it off, so that we can get a better look at the actual incision.

My kittie is 6 days post spay. Does this incision look normal?
It does not appear wide open, is not red and is not bleeding or draining. It looks good for 6 days post op. Monitor for redness,swelling, discharge, bleeding or for dehiscence (opening). Monitor also for lethargy, loss of appetite or fever. These are all symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

This looks like a typical post spay incision site. The skin can pucker a bit as the pet reacts to the sutures used, but this is normal. As long as you are not seeing any discharge or open areas, then this looks just fine. Thanks for visiting Boop by Petco. Take care!

My dog got spayed today and they had to repair a hernia. She was going through a false pregnancy. They said that they stitched inside and glued outside but I’m afraid the outside is open. The vet is closed until Tuesday but I want to see if I need to
I received the picture that you forwarded to customer service. I presume the area that you are concerned about is the area outlined in red. When we close the skin with surgical glue, there can be a small amount of tissue that looks like it does in the picture. I don't see anything that is particularly concerning in that picture. Make sure to keep Mia rested and use an e-collar so she cannot lick at the incision. The area that you outlined should not look any larger and should not ooze any discharge. If there are any other concerns, please feel free to post another question with another picture and one of us will be happy to try to help you. I hope that was helpful! My dog was spayed about 9 days ago, but there is a little red bump on her belly at the incision site. She has been on an antibiotic and an NSAID for 4 days.
This appears to be healing just fine. I suspect this is a mild reaction to the stitches under the skin. This is very common. I would only be worried if it opens up and starts draining fluid, gets much larger or becomes very red. Just make sure she cannot lick it until it is completely healed.

Hi my kitten was spays ago. Does her incision look ok? I'm worried cos I see gaps and she has been running around the first chance she gets
Thank you for sending the picture! I can see the puckering on KC’s skin that you’re concerned about, but this area looks pretty normal to me. The abdomen is closed in 2-3 layers depending on the surgeon’s preference, so even if there is a little puckering of the skin incision, the abdomen itself is still closed. I also don’t see any evidence of infection or inflammation since there doesn’t appear to be any swelling, redness, or discharge. For now, continue to keep the e-collar on KC and do your best to keep her relatively quiet. I realize that’s an impossible undertaking, so just do your best! I hope that everything goes well!

It has been 6 day for spaying my cat ... And I wanted to know that is this incision healing properly ....PS: the white stuff is a healing cream recommended by vet
Hello. While there is a little gaping at the top of the incision in your first picture, there is no swelling, redness or discharge to indicate infection. The sutures should probably stay in for a full 10-14 days, but otherwise everything looks great! Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

My puppy was spayed on Monday & her stitches are starting to scab over slightly. There's no sign of infection *knock on wood* but I wanted to be sure that the scabbing is normal? It almost looks like there's a little gap at the top but I'm pretty sur
Hello there! Scabbing over the stitches is pretty normal, however a gap at the top might be a stitch from under the skin poking out. The stitches that go into the muscle layer after a spay are absorbable, but sometimes the body treats them like any other foreign substance (think splinters) and tries to reject them before they get a chance to absorb (which can take 90-200 days). If you truly see a hole in her incision line, I recommend bringing her back to the vet to see if a subcutaneous stitch needs to be removed. This would not likely require anesthesia, but it's not something that you should do at home. Good luck, and I hope that Snowball continues to do well! :)

Hi. My dog was neutered 5 days ago but it doesn't look to be healing as well as it should after 5 days. One part of the incision looks to not be closing and is red and moist but not weeping
Hi there. It looks like a small part of the skin incision may be open a bit, but I don’t see any swelling or drainage, which are the most common signs of infection. This will probably heal over just fine - but to be safe, I would recommend having your regular veterinarian take a quick look. He/she may want to prescribe an antibiotic to prevent the open area of incision from becoming infected as it heals.
