Why is my cat throwing up daily for weeks? Food or environment?

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Female | spayed | 10 years and 11 months old | 9 lbs

For 3-4 weeks my cat has been throwing up twice a day. At first I thought it was switching her food back to the old food. But her stomach should have acclimated by now I would think. Then I got new curtains and I know sometimes cats don't like change. When my mom died she had a throwing up period of time because I believe she was upset mom didn't come back home. I took her to the vet and they said nothing was wrong. Then she stopped throwing up. Could it be the food? Or the change in atmosphere?

I'm so sorry Lilly was sick, and you did the absolutely right thing by taking her into the vet. It could have been the change in food, cats can be pretty sensitive to changes in food, and it may have taken her a while to get used to the new food. I don't think it was the change in curtains. Keep an eye on her, and if she starts vomiting again, I'd have her seen by the vet. I hope this helps!

It could be from the change in diet. Sudden changes in diet cause stomach upset. I'm concerned with how much Misty has been throwing up. I think it's best you take her into a vet immediately. I hope this helps!

The possible causes of for vomiting are numerous. The fact that you recently moved (be in a month ago at this point) could play a role potentially as stress is a definite cause of GI upset in cats. Other causes can be dietary, gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, kidney / liver disease, allergies, foreign objects, and even cancer in some rarer cases in a young cat. Since there have only been episodes of vomiting total at this point, I wouldn't be particularly concerned as of yet. If you see this happening another couple of times over the next week, I think it is something worth investigating more. Hope this helps!

Oh no! Lily is clearly having stomach issues. She may have food allergies, metabolic disease, inflammatory bowel disease, lymphoma, or any number of issues. Hopefully a simple prescription food allergy diet will help her. I recommend a vet visit for a full workup to include blood work, urinalysis, and abdominal radiographs. You could always try Hills z/d diet and feed ONLY that for 8 weeks to see if that helps first, but I would still recommend doing the workup so we aren't missing any serious health problems with Lily.

While it can not be determined for sure, it would definitely seem that the food resulted in either an upset stomach, an allergic reaction, or a mixture of the two. The vomiting could have certainly irritated the lining of the throat and resulted in the some pain / discomfort. Another consequence of vomiting however that is far more serious is if an of the vomit was inhaled accidentally into the lungs. This can result in pneumonia and the various consequences of such a condition. Since his condition has persisted for a number of days now even after switching back to the old food, I would say that it is time to have him examined by a veterinarian to make sure there is nothing else going on that's requires addressing. They may want to obtain some blood work or imaging to ensure you that there are no serious problems. Hope this helps.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Possible reasons for vomiting episodes include pancreatitis, kidney disease, inflammatory bowel disease, gastroenteritis, among others. However, in a kitten who is otherwise doing well, oftentimes it is dietary indiscretion. In this case, sometimes a diet change to a sensitive stomach diet could improve this. You can get any good quality sensitive stomach food at your local pet store and see if that helps. Having grain or not is really not the important factor here. It is more just a sensitivity to the protein or carbohydrate in the current diet. If no improvement is observed, have her evaluated by your veterinarian to ensure that there is nothing else going on such as the conditions mentioned above. Good luck and have a great night!

This could be due to dietary indiscretion or a simple case of gastritis. But it could also be something more serious like pancreatitis or a foreign body obstruction. You can try to feed a bland diet for a day to see if Lilly improves. However, if vomiting and diarrhea persists or if Lilly is not eating or drinking or is lethargic then I recommend you take Lilly to your veterinarian.

Vomiting could be caused by a number of things, including parasites, diet changes, toxin ingestion, infectious viral diseases, blockage in the intestines caused by ingestion of a foreign body, food sensitivity/allergy, decreased pancreatic function, or a mass/growth in the gastrointestinal tract. Please make an appointment to have Koko seen by a veterinarian to allow for diagnosis and treatment. I also recommend preventing Koko from running around/ playing for half an hour after meals and using a puzzle feeder/ slow feed bowl or treat dispensing toy instead of a bowl for feeding to get Koko to eat at a slower pace, in case she is vomiting due to eating too fast or running around after eating.

Changing food can cause gastritis/enteritis so it could be from the can of food. You could withhold food for 12 hours and if the vomiting and diarrhea stops then try a bland diet. You could buy a commercial gastrointestinal diet or try a little bit of boiled chicken and see how she does. If the vomiting and diarrhea continues or she becomes lethargic then she should be examined by a vet for treatment. She may need fluids, anti-vomiting, antibiotic, and a gastrointestinal protectant. You can try keeping him on a sensitive stomach food such as Iams limited ingredient, Fromm, or Purina sensitive stomach. However, it sounds like Keeko may have a inflammatory bowel disease and really the prescription diets have more reliable results. Also I would keep in mind that sudden switches from one food to the next can cause upset stomach issues in and of themselves. It is recommend to do a slow transition over the course of 7-10 days whenever you are making a food change. Vomiting can be a result of something minor, like a cat consuming her meal too quickly, or it can be a sign of a much more serious condition that requires immediate medical attention. Usually, a cat vomits because she ate something disagreeable, ate too much, or played too soon after dinner. Vomiting can also be associated with gastrointestinal or systemic disorders, or foreign bodies. Since your cat has been vomiting for a week, I would be concerned that her vomiting is more likely due to a GI or systemic disorder, or a foreign body. I would recommend taking her into your vet to be checked out as soon as possible.
