My dog's poop is smaller on melatonin chews. Is this normal?

Romeo has been taking Naturvet Calming Chews with Melatonin in it. I noticed his stool isn’t as big as usual since being on the chews. This was today. It’s not hard though like consipation. Does this look pretty normal? Thanks! Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 10 years and 5 months old | 12 lbs

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The stool looks normal to me. As long as he is not straining when trying to defecate I would not worry about it too much. Melatonin does have a tendency to slow down the GI tract a bit so the changes in the stool are most likely from the chews. Just keep an eye on it. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
