Why does my spayed dog lick her vulva frantically every day?

Adult spayed female dog bites and licks her vulva frantically for about a half hour, at just about the same time of day, almost every day. Vet has found no problem, but has primarily been looking at anal gland issues. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 11 lbs

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is very difficult to say what is going on. A problem with the anal glands is certainly a possibility - sometimes the dog knows something is not right back there but they don't get the exact location correct. It could also be a urinary issue. It is possible she has a UTI and there is some burning in the vulva that is causing her to react this way. Another option is an obsessive compulsive type disorder (OCD). I suggest that you have your vet check the anal glands and also perform a urinary test to check for infection. If all that can be ruled out then I suspect it could be an OCD type behavior.
