My dog ate antidepressant pills. Is it an emergency? What should I do?

My 40 lb dog, 10 months old, ate 4 anti depressant pills. Is there anything specific I should do?

I would get Lulu to a vet immediately. Depending on the type of antidepressant and the dose of it, this could cause extremely serious problems such as seizures and death. I would consider this a medical emergency. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

This is a potentially toxic dose and I would recommend seeing an emergency veterinarian. Alprazolam (Xanax) can cause sedation and disorientation or hyperexcitability. At high doses it can effect the blood pressure or lead to muscle tremors. Since you’re not sure if she ate the pill you could also contact the Pet Poison Helpline - they might be able to better determine if her symptoms are consistent t with ingestion and can recommend whether or not you need to seek treatment. http://www.petpoisonhelpline.com

My dog accidentally ate my 75mg Effexor capsul
This is a very high dose for a 20lb dog and some effects are likely to be seen. If it was eaten within the last 90 minutes, then it's best to take him to a vet so they can induce vomiting and give other treatment to prevent absorption of the drug. At this dose he is in danger of having tremors and possibly seizures, it's best to take him to the vet as soon as possible for treatment and monitoring. Think my dog ate one or some of my wellbursion pills...He has been running around find not sure if he ate any...they was on the floor bottle busted
Without knowing the number of milligrams your dog may have ingested, it's difficult to give you specific advice other than seek immediate veterinary care. Wellbutrin is toxic to dogs at doses as low as 10 mg/kg. I'd guess an average weight for a male pit bull to be about 50-60 pounds, or 22 to 27 kilos. If he ate 220mg or more, he may have a toxicity. I recommend taking him in to your vet (or an emergency vet) so that vomiting can be induced and activated charcoal given to absorb whatever is left in the Gi tract, and he can be monitored for reaction.

My 6 month 40 pound puppy ate some of my meds today. 5mg of lisinopril, 4mg of glimipride and 40 mg of protonix. He ate breakfast about 15 minutes prior to eating pills
It would be best to bring him into your vet or an emergency clinic so they can safely induce vomiting if possible and treat him as needed. If you are unsure if he took a toxic dose of medication, you can also contact the Pet Poison Helpline https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/ (there is a fee for this service) however, due to the number of meds he ate, it would be best to just seek emergency care.

My 20 lb 1 year old dog ate about 50 10mg claritin tabs
Hello. While this is not a reported lethal dose, it can result in very serious clinical signs. I would strongly encourage you to take Dobby to the nearest veterinary clinic where the pills can be safely removed & Dobby monitored if this is needed. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

My 15 lb dog ate 4-6 Advil, 200mg each. We induced vomiting within 90 minutes. We can’t take him to the vet since it’s the middle of the night. Not sure what else to do.

My dog accidentally ingested 20mg of Lexapro. He is a purebred 8yr old golden retriever and weighs about 80lbs. Should I be worried?! What should I do
Duke is 80lbs, so about 36.4kg. He ingested 0.55mg/kg of Lexapro. With doses as low as 0.3mg/kg, you can see incoordination and lethargy, although there is typically no toxic damage to organs. To be safe, if Duke ate the Lexapro within the past 2 hours, I would take him to your vet now to induce vomiting. If it's been longer than 2 hours, you will have to monitor him for signs of toxicity (tremors, incoordination, seizures, lethargy), and if you see any of those signs, take him to a vet right away.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Regardless of who got into this, that would be a very high dose of this and this requires a veterinary evaluation as soon as possible. If this happened within the last 2 hours, they may still be able to induce vomiting to retrieve some of the contents of the pills and start a decontamination process. They may also require supportive care as needed to keep them comfortable as some animals that are overdosed can experience deep sedation among other possible side effects. Good luck!

My dogs 40Lb and 70Lb got a hold of my xanax prescription and ate up to 10mg of xanax combined. They seem fine but do they need to go to the hospital? Is there a risk of OD?
Generally, you don't want to exceed 4mg total dose daily. You may see excessive lethargy or sedation and maybe some ataxia (wobbly gait). Rarely, Xanax may cause nervous system excitement or liver issues. If the ingestion was within the past 2 hours, the safest option would be to have them seen at the nearest veterinary ER. Vomiting can be induced via injection to get any medication out before it is absorbed. If you can't take them to a vet now, you can monitor for the above symptoms and have them seen if necessary.

To be safe, you can take her into a vet now. There will be a vet on call for emergencies in your area, and the information to reach that vet on call will be found on a clinic's answering machine or website. You could also choose to monitor Lulu. If you see any vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, weakness, lethargy, yellowing of the skin, uncoordinated movement, drooling, or seizures, then she will need to see a vet immediately.
