When can I remove my pet's e-collar after surgery? Is scabbing normal?

Can I take E-collar off after at 10 day mark? I have included a picture. I just want to know if this is appropriately healing or if I need to take him in for a recheck. Also area looks scabby and tattoo is too. Idk if that’s normal

Thank you for the picture. The incision looks like it has healed really well. Yes it is normal to see some scabbing and from the picture, I don't see any obvious signs of infection (redness, swelling, pus). It takes 10-14 days to fully heal an incision so to be safe, I would keep it on for 14 days, then you can remove it. Frequently, vets who do the surgery like a recheck to be safe, so I'd give his vet a call just to check if you need to bring him in or not. I hope this helps!

That wound looks like it is healing and I don't see any redness which is good. Open wounds can take longer to heal (2-4 weeks). Continue doing what you are doing until the scab naturally falls off on it's own. Continue to make Scooby wear the cone collar to protect it. Great job! As long as he isn't trying to lick at it, then its fine to leave the cone off. Since there is a small scab still there, it may itch a bit or be irritating until that scab falls off, so if he's licking at it, leave the cone on until the scab is gone. However its very reasonable to try to go without the cone at this point. Thanks for asking Boop by Petco!

My cat was neutered last Friday I just want to know if everything looks okay and if I’m able to remove his e-collar already for good ? Since it’s already been a week
From what I can see in your picture I think everything looks good, but it can sometimes be difficult to evaluate from a picture alone. I typically recommend waiting at least 10 days until removing the e-collar but some vets might recommend more or less time. I think it would be best to follow your vet's instructions. If they didn't specify you should wait to remove the e-collar until you can contact them.

Day 9 post spay, she has been more active but still has her e-collar on. I’m just not sure if it’s opening and if the bit of crusting is normal. Nothing is oozing out. She’s not itching or scratching. Should I be doing anything about this?
Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. The incision is healing beautifully. I would not be concerned with the scabbing as it's just a normal part of healing. It is best to leave it alone - don't apply anything on it. Definitely leave the E-collar on a for a few more days minimum. We always tell people to leave it on for 10-14 days post-operatively and it always better to go more towards the 14 days mark. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Hello, sorry to hear Scooby. It does look like it is healing normally. Occasionally, depending on what was used to close the incision it can take longer to have complete closure or if a scab has formed and then fallen off, this could lead to the incision appearing like it did in your picture. As long as he has not licked at the incision and you do not see any discharge, pain, swelling, or bruising then you should continue to monitor the area. You should keep the e-collar on for an additional 5 days and allow the incision to completely heal. If Scooby develops any of the above signs then he should be seen by his veterinarian for a recheck sooner. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Hello. I had Chloe spayed 13 days ago and I just wanted to know if her incision looks normal? About 2 days ago some clear looking fluid came out of the part where you can see a scab now. Was that normal? Was that because she moved a little too much?
Yes the fluid was probably from her being overly active. I would not remove the e-collar until the scab area has healed like the rest of the incision. You can take it off while you are with her and see if she licks it. Then put it back on for a few more days when you’re not able to monitor her. How long should I keep the e collar on after neutering? He got neutered a week ago can I take it off now?
I would recommend you check the scrotal area first and make sure it is dry with no discharge or swelling. If none are seen then you can remove it. A week's time should be plenty. If you look at the scrotum and are unsure, feel free to post a photo here and we can try to help you assess it. Hope this helps. Best wishes!

Lilly was spayed 12 days ago. is it safe to remove her ecolar?
Lilly's incision looks like it has healed well. From the picture, it appears she had internal sutures to close the incision. To be safe, I'd wait until 14 days have passed since she was spayed, and then take off the Ecollar. I hope this helps!

Thank you for providing pictures of Blaze's incisions, it helps with my answer to you. From the picture, I do not see any redness or swelling, which is great! I also see the area where the scab came off. At this point in time, as long as there is no sign of infection and he is eating and drinking normally, it's fine to wait until Tuesday to have him seen by the vet. Make sure he doesn't lick at the area, putting an Ecollar on him in case he tries to do that. I would rush him into the vet if the area does become red or swollen, the incision area starts bleeding, or it appears that the incision has opened up. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Hi there! My dog had surgery done on her right patella 12 days ago. Sutures are coming out Monday. I noticed today it looked scabby. Is this normal?
That bit of scabbing is normal and no cause for concern. There is no redness, major swelling, bleeding or discharge. She will still need to be restricted in activity for another 4-6 weeks after suture removal.
