My dog limped, now lethargic with soft stool. Is it a stomach issue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 3 years and 11 months old | 66 lbs

My dog was fine this morning. However, it seems like when he woke up from nap he limped. He wasnt putting alot of weight on his front leg. He is not really limping anymore but now very lethargic. He has been lying on my bed and isn’t himself. Very tired, he ate when brought food to him. I didn’t see him ingest anything unusual but he was playing outside for a while. His stool is not diarrhea but is very soft. Could this be a GI issue?

Hello thank you for using PetCoach. A GI issue is always possible, however, I think his symptoms are more related to the lameness. I think you should have him to your vet to check his leg even if it seems like his not limping anymore. If the lameness is subtle now you may not be noticing it. Any pain/stress could cause lethargy and soft stool. While waiting for an appointment you can always start him on a probiotic to help support his GI tract. I suggest this one: ( https://worldtails.securevetsource.com/itemView/view/223965_HomeDelivery.pml?productId=111441 ) Hope this helps. Best wishes.
