My 30lb dog ate milk chocolate. Is it an emergency or will he be okay?

My dog ate three squares of symphony chocolate it is milk chocolate with almonds- he weighs around 30 pounds. Is this something I should consider an emergency or will he be okay based on the amount?

Hello! Based on Iggy's weight and the amount of chocolate he ate, this should not be enough to cause any problems. At most you may see some stomach upset, but this is not an emergency. Just make sure he doesn't eat any more. I hope this helps!

That depends on the type of chocolate. If it was dark chocolate, Louis should see a vet immediately. If was milk chocolate and only a couple of grams, there should be no effects from it. Best of luck.

Hi there. Such a small amount of chocolate (especially milk chocolate, which doesn't contain much cocoa) should not be enough to cause any significant issues - so no need to worry :) It's possible that Cupcake might have a mild upset stomach if she isn't used to eating "people food" like this, but otherwise she should be just fine.

My Havanese adult dog ate about 1.6 oz of Dove milk chocolate hearts. (Approximately 6-8 small hearts) He weighs about 15 pounds. Should I be concerned?
You can expect mild gastrointestinal upset (vomiting, diarrhea or decreased appetite). The amount is not enough to cause serious toxicity in a 15lb dog, but you should still monitor for tremors, increased heart rate, hyperactivity or seizures. Minor GI upset can usually be managed at home with a 24 hour fast followed by a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Ideally, Mojito should be examined by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. Either can induce vomiting if the ingestion has happened in the last two hours, then administer activated charcoal to further inhibit absorption.

My dog weighs just over 11kg and ate 2 galaxy minstrels. Will he be okay
Hi there! Thanks for using Boop by Petco! How likely Ziggy is to be affected by this depends on how much chocolate he ingested relative to his weight. If it the typical size of galaxy minstrels made how they are typically made, then it is likely that Ziggy will be fine. It really comes down to how much was ingested. Some of the clinical signs that can be noted include gastrointestinal signs such as vomiting and diarrhea all the way down to even neurologic signs such as tremors and seizures and cardiac arrhythmias in severe cases. I recommend that you have Ziggy evaluated by your veterinarian if you think that the amount he ate is too much based on the galaxy minstrels being bigger than typical or for example being made of dark chocolate. At the very least, his vitals can be checked to ensure they are normal. I really hope that everything goes well! Good luck!

Oh no, that was naughty of Elmo to eat that chocolate! The good news is that with his weight and the amount of chocolate he ate, you would see minimal to no reaction. There is a potential for an upset stomach and diarrhea, and if you do see that, you can withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. Otherwise, he should be fine and there is no need to call the vet as an emergency. Good luck, I hope this helps and thanks for contacting Pet Coach!

While we were away 10:30am-2:00 pm today, Golden Retriever at home apparently ate 2-3 oz of milk chocolate with crispy rice. Dog weighs 95 lb, shows no symptoms of distress. What action should I take?
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Luna. While it's not good that she ate this chocolate, you don't need to do anything. The amount she ate will cause minimal to no reaction. At most you may see some GI upset, but other than that, she should be ok. I hope this helps!

Such a small amount of milk chocolate is unlikely to have any effect in such a large dog. I recommend monitoring for muscle twitching or agitation, vomiting or diarrhea and arrange an emergency appointment in the unlikely event they occur

First off, thank you for providing Bravo's weight and how much chocolate he ate. The good news is that if he at 6oz of milk chocolate, at his weight that would cause minimal to no reaction. At most you may see some stomach upset, diarrhea, or agitation. If you do see any stomach upset or diarrhea, I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps him. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. Now if Bravo ate that amount of dark chocolate, it is a medical emergency and he will need to see a vet immediately. Dark chocolate is much more toxic to dogs than milk chocolate, and 6oz would cause a moderate to severe reaction. In this case, take him into a vet now.

This depends upon the amount of chocolate and also the quality/strength of the chocolate. There are many free chocolate toxicity calculators online which can help assess if the weight of chocolate are is likely to cause issues for the size of Neville. Small chocolate doses can cause gastrointestinal upsets but larger volumes can cause seizures and liver and kidney problems. Rapid treatment within hours can help to prevent absorption if a dangerous amount is possible

The severity of this depends on the type of chocolate. 60g of milk chocolate is not likely to cause any problems in a 50# dog. If this was Baker's chocolate this could be severe. So, please post again and let us know what type of chocolate it was. Then we can help you better.
