My dog's knee pops after leg surgery. Should I get a second opinion?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 4 months old | 45 lbs

I have a Terrier Mixed dog He broke his leg when he was about 6 months old and had to go to surgery The vet placed pins and one of them broke and got stuck inside The vet said no problem it can stay in there Now after almost a year he looks 100% okay running and jumping with no signs of pain But I keep hearing his knee pop every time gets up and I noticed that it pops very often when it moves My vet says as long as he's running he's okay but I'm worried, should I get a second opinion?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is never wrong to seek a second opinion. Without all the medical records, X-rays and examining him myself I cannot tell you anything via this platform but you can certainly seek the opinion of another vet in your area. There is no harm in doing that. I'm glad Brownie seems to be doing well but, in my opinion, the knee popping could be an issue (if not immediately, possibly long term). Hope this helps. Best wishes.
