My cat has a bleeding lump with black stuff. Should I pull it out?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 8 lbs

I saw this lump on my cats back. What is this? I had seen this lump before but now it’s bleeding. It doesn’t hurt her, but I am sure it’s not comfortable. There is also something black coming out of it. Should I pull it out with tweezers? Dot is eating and drinking and active as usual. Thank you for your help on this. Dot and I appreciate it!

Hello. I am so sorry for your worries with Dot. I think you need to be very suspicious of this & let your veterinarian examine Dot. There is just no way to say if this is a benign cyst or lump, or something more serious. But based on you picture, it does not look very big, so if there is any doubt as to what this might be, the best thing to do is remove it & send the tissue to a pathologist before it does get bigger. I hope all is well & thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
