My arthritic dog is limping. Can I give her expired Carprieve?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 8 years and 3 months old | 81 lbs

Hello. My dog has arthritis in her back legs and has been limping since last night. She is a labrador and weighs about 37kg. I have not walked her since and gave her the daily joint and mobility powder with her food (vetpro joints and mobility). I was wondering what else I could do for her in the meantime. I will bring her to the vet if the limping persists for a few days or gets worse. There is carprieve 50mg tablets but I don't know if they're in date. Should I give them to her? Thanks

hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If you have Carprieve I would use it even if it is not in-date. If they are outdated they will not likely cause any issues, they just may not work as well as they normally would. According to the photo it looks like they technically expired 11/2019. I would give her 1.5 tablets twice per day. Please still take her to your vet for an exam. In an older dog with known joint issues it is best to do so. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
