My kitten's spay incision is leaking. Is it healing or reopening?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My kitten was spayed last Monday and developed an infection Friday and was put on antibiotics. We are doing a warm compress for her about every 3 hours. She’s been eating and drinking normally since then but there is still a lot of leakage going on and I was wondering if it looks like it could be opening back up? Just wanting to check if it looks like its healing well or if I should run her to the vet tomorrow and get it checked on

Hi and thanks for your request. From the picture it does not look like it is extremely inflamed but the leakage is concerning, especially if particularly persistent. It is unlikely that the wound is open and if she is fine in herself there is room to wait and monitor her. I would recommend to have her checked if the leakage persist in the next 24 hours.
