My senior dog has weak back legs and can't poop. How can I help her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 15 years and 1 month old | 30 lbs

My dog is near the end of life, she has trouble with back legs especially the right one. She can't squat without falling so she hasn't been able to poop. We go outside and she pees and I can tell she wants to poop. How can I help her

I'm so sorry Roxy is struggling with her mobility. This is common in geriatric dogs. I would recommend trialing pain medication and consulting with a rehab veterinarian. NSAIDs are often useful for dogs without kidney or liver disease. You may also ask about pain medications like Gabapentin, amantadine, or pregabalin.
