How many Praziquantel tablets for my cat's tapeworms and how often?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 28 days old | 6 lbs

What is the total number of tablets for proper dosing of Praziquantel tablets for my cat who has tapeworms? She is 6 pounds, and five months old. I gave her one 23 mg tablet. Does she require two more doses every five hours?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Cats should be treated with an initial dose (based on the label instructions) and then again after 3 weeks. DO NOT give multiple doses in a day. Cats get tapeworms by ingested fleas that are infected with the tapeworm larvae so be sure to get the fleas under control.
