My female dog is depressed with vaginal discharge. Is it pyometra?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | unspayed | 8 years and 3 months old | 70 lbs

My female dog has been noticeably depressed and has a loss of appetite. Her vagina has been releasing white pus-like discharge. Is this a sign of pyometra? If so, is it critical I take her to the vet today? All of the clinics are closed until Tuesday due to Labor Day weekend. If it’s not pyometra, what else could it be?

This does sound like it may be a pyometra if she is not spayed. She needs to see a vet ASAP as this is a life threatening infection. Do not wait until Tuesday she should go to an emergency vet tonight.
