My dog has a ruptured pimple near her anus. Is it an anal gland issue?

Hello! My 12 years female boxer has a pimple just by the opening of her anus. It’s not on her anus. It was obviously an abscess because I cleaned it and liquid and blood came outta there and now is not inflamed anymore but still is dripping a bit of blood and liquid. Impossible to avoid because she sits. She has no pain or anything. But I would like her to be on antibiotics just in case. Can you send her some? Do you need a picture?

Poor Khaia. Antibiotics are a prescription drug and it is illegal for us to write a prescription without seeing the in person. If this issue is by her anus, it may be her anal sac has abscessed and ruptured. This will be painful for her, and it does need to be treated by a vet asap. Please take her into a vet now to get this treated. Best of luck.

Hello, I am sorry but on Boop by Petco we are not able to prescribe medications. Legally, your dog needs to be physically seen by a vet to get antibiotic treatment. If Daisy has indeed a ruptured anal gland abscess, she will need a course antibiotics to get better. Maybe you can talk to your local vets about a payment plan or try and find a low-cost clinic for Daisy ?

Based on the photo and your description this does sound like an anal sac gland abscess. Continue with her antibiotics as previously prescribed and ensure that she cannot lick the area (may need a cone collar). Often, abscesses will open and drain like this before they can begin to heal. Continue to monitor the area and if she will allow you can do a warm compress on the region a few times a day. If you are not seeing improvement in the area in the next several days, it wouldn't hurt to have your vet take a look again and make sure that it does not require additional treatment or medications.

Your pet may have an inflamed or infected [anal gland](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/conditions-of-the-anal-glands). [Impacted or abscessed anal glands](https://www.petcoach.co/article/anal-glands-sacs-impactions-infections-abscesses-in-dogs) are very painful and makes it difficult to defecate or even move. Without treatment, an impacted gland may abscess and rupture, causing a open wound on your pet's rear that will require wound care, antibiotics and pain relief. I recommend getting your pet seen by your vet. He or she will express (empty) the anal glands, clean her up and possibly start her on antibiotics and pain medication if indicated. You can ask to be shown how to express the anal glands yourself at home so you can avoid impaction or infection in the future. Increased dietary fiber or supplements, such as [Glandex](https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/glandex-anal-gland-beef-and-liver-powder-supplement-for-dogs-and-cats), may help prevent anal gland issues

Pug has sore near anus. Not sure what caused it. Cleaned & placed antibacterial cream. Should she go to the vet?
It looks like this may be a ruptured anal sac abscess. A warm compress to the area can help with comfort. I would definitely encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian as these require antibiotics and sometimes manual removal of anal sac material to heal. My dog has a red, lifted rash that sort of looks like a cluster of pimples.. When they are popped it's mostly clear liquid with a bit of blood, what could this be?
I am not sure where this cluster of pimples is, but if it is on the chin this could be chin acne. This could also be a skin allergic dermatitis to some type of allergen (chemical or environmental). The almost clear contents inside mixed with blood is probably a folliculitis (inflamed hair follicles) which typically requires antibiotics and medicated cleansers to flush out the follicles. If you canno get to your vet right away for treatment, you can try gently cleansing the area with an antiseptic like Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water or Chlorhexidine 3% diluted as instructed on the bottle (preferred)- available at most Walmart's, to see if this calms things down a bit. Any further treatment depends on the location of the rash and getting your vet involved may be best for Abbie, because he/she can thoroughly examine the area and get her on stronger medications to resolve the skin.

Based on the location (it appears to be just to the side and just below the anus), an anal gland abscess may have ruptured. I doubt it’s an insect bite, but I can’t rule that out completely. It could also be another type of mass such as a tumor or a foreign body (such as a grass seed) that’s burrowed into the skin and caused an abscess. Regardless, your instincts are correct; this likely needs to be treated with antibiotics. Put an E -collar (cone of shame) on him and make an appointment with your vet ASAP. Hope that’s helpful! This looks like a ruptured anal gland, the medication she is currently on should help to prevent infection but you should have the other gland checked and emptied by your vet or vet tech to prevent the second from rupturing also. As long as the area is kept clean it should heal uneventfully, a high fiber supplement may help in preventing further recurrence

Hello. Most anal gland infections heal up quite nicely with medications & keeping the area clean. Unless there is a special circumstance involving Tia's glands, such as the area is just not healing, additional flushing & treatment is usually not necessary. my dog appears to have a small abcess in her anal area, it has opened and draining, I cant afford to take her in, she weighs 7lbs, I have some left over cephalexin 250 mg, can I break these open and dose her with ,sayb half?
I am sorry Nini is having discomfort around her rectum. The anal glands sit right inside the rectum and can become inflamed and rupture. However there are also peri anal fistulas and growth that can have the same appearance. I would not recommend giving her half of the cephalexin. This is still to high of a dose for her and can cause vomiting and diarrhea. I would recommend not giving any type of antibiotic until Nini see's a vet for a good exam an to determine the exact cause of the lump area. You can try to do warm compressed two times a day. Also you can try an anti histamine to help decrease inflammation. I hope Nini starts to feel better soon

My dog has a hole by her butt
This is most likely due to a ruptured anal gland abscess. Have her examined by your veterinarian for confirmation. Your veterinarian should check the other gland and express (empty) it if necessary. Antibiotics will probably be dispensed. Pain medication may also be dispensed if indicated. place an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent licking until she has healed.
