Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | unspayed
Hello! 16 y/o shih tzu owner here in need of help. Recently I noticed that there's irritation around my dog's vulva and I've got different answers from different sources on goggle therefore I'm not sure what it is and what to treat it with. Help will be very much appreciated, thank you!

Hi and thanks for your request. This small skin lesion seems to be related to a superficial skin abrasion, which could be traumatic, infective or due to self-traumatism (licking). I would recommend to: - stop any further licking (if any) by using a buster collar. - disinfect the area with some hibiscrub diluted 1:10 with water twice daily for 5-7 days. Lack of improvement by then should be ideally checked by your local veterinarian.

This actually does not look very bad. I think you can either just leave it alone and let it heal by itself (no more peroxide and also no more washing please), or if you feel the need to put something on the reddened area, you can put some OTC antibiotic ointment on it. Should the area get redder , then stop the ointment.
