My dog's wound: Is it infected? Should I stop cleaning or Neosporin?

Our dog got this wound on her back about 4 days ago we've been cleaning it and putting Neosporin on it, I can tell it's making her uncomfortable and i’m not sure if it's infected

Thank you for the picture of Kreature's wound, it's very helpful. From the picture, it doesn't appear to be infected. I don't see any redness, swelling, or pus. It appears to be healing, and I would just leave it be for now, continued cleaning will interrupt the healing process and probably cause her some pain. I would simply monitor the wound for now, only clean it if it's dirty, and do not allow her to lick it, putting a cone on her to keep her from licking it if necessary. It doesn't need any more Neosporin either. I hope this helps.

It looks like the wart just got inflamed or traumatized. I would not worry about it. Cleaning it and applying Neosporin is perfect! Great job! I would keep it clean and keep applying the Neosporin until healed. Just DON'T use peroxide on it as that will inhibit healing. Hope this helps! Best wishes!

This is not good. Had your dog not been licking the wound, she would not have needed an antibiotic , as your vet worked very cleanly. However, now that she can lick the wound she is licking bacteria into it. This does indeed look infected now, You can clean it up a bit with warm water and put some neosporine on it until you can take her back to the vet for a recheck and some medications. If possible cover the wound with a sock or t-shirt or similar, so she cannot lick it or get a larger cone at a petshop.

I would not worry about this incision. If the opening is no bigger than what I see on the photo, it will likely just crust over and heal by itself. There is no infection visible (not red, no pus) so antibiotics are not needed. You will need to tighten the cone a bit more, so he cannot take it off again. You may also put a t-shirt on him so he cannot reach his incision. He must not lick it. If the incision still looks like this on Monday, ie, not worse, then you do not need to take him to the vet.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! From the picture the cut looks superficial. I would keep it clean and dry with a mild soap and water and continue the neosporine. If you notice it’s hot to the touch, has any drainage or is swollen, then contact a vet. Kisses to your pup!

My dog has a small open wound on his hind leg, it had a small mass that I though was a tick, but was not. I have put neosporin on the wound and he is relaxed now. I just want to know if this is something I should be concerned with.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This wound is certainly very small and will most likely heal up on its own if you leave it alone and maintain it clean. I would not advise the use of neosporin or any other topical ointment as it is a bit deep and those are not indicated in internal tissue. I would just ensure that it remains clean and that he does not lick at it or traumatize it any other way. If it does not resolve, then have him evaluated. Good luck and have a good evening!

You did well. I do not think this requires a trip to the vet as long as it does not get infected. I would apply Neosporine once a day for three days and then leave it alone, but monitor it for infection. Should infection appear (red skin pain, pus), a vet should examine the ear. You did a great job cleaning this up.

My dog was neutered 2 months ago on May 1st, we adopted him on May 20th. We took him to the vet 4 days after we got him on the 24th due to sores on his neck and the incision site from neutering would not heal. They suggested using neosporin and bitte
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! At least based on these pictures, this looks almost healed. It just has a small area that appears to be close to healing but not quite. While neosporin is ok, I think the main thing to make it completely heal is making sure that he is unable to get to it and chew or lick at it. Please make sure to use an e-collar to try to prevent this. If you are able to keep him from getting to his incision, I think you should be able to get it to heal. You can continue to use the neosporin as that may speed up the healing process. However, make sure to not pick at any scabs as that will usually delay healing. Good luck and have a good night!

Does it look like her wound is healing well? It’s been a week today since she got hurt.
The wound actually looks very good. Make sure it does not get contaminated with dirt. You need to keep your dog from licking the wound as the licking may get it infected with bacteria. Should the wound start to ooze or show pus, you should have it examined by a vet who will then give you an antibiotic ointment to alleviate that.

It's not easy to see the extent of the puncture from the picture, but it appears somewhat minor. It's always best to have a vet examine it and provide treatment, so if you can have him seen in the next 24 hours, that would be great, but may not be necessary. The first thing you should do is flush the wound using a syringe or other dispensing device with warm water for five minutes. This may not be easy, because dogs tend to hate water getting near their face. I recommend having someone help you with holding Finn to make sure the wound gets flushed well. Infection is the biggest concern with these wounds; so after flushing, it's best to apply the Neosporin cream to the wound. In order to keep the wound clean, it's best to flush the wound 1-2 times a day and gently wipe away any big crusts - make sure not to scrub the wound, because this can make it worse. Apply the antibacterial cream after each flushing. If the wound starts to swell or have pus oozing from the wound, then I

Does this incision look like it’s healing healthily? It’s been 12 days since neuter and I’ve been applying some neosporin to try and avoid any infections he has also been wearing the ecollar the whole time so he hasn’t messed with it
Nothing looks red but the neosporin (?) makes it look gooey. If this is all neosporin, then I would say it looks normal. If it is gooey without the neosporin, then I suspect it is infected and he needs to see his veterinarian. When in doubt, have him seen again by his vet as they can palpate the area to check for any fullness, heat or other signs of an issue. I recommend to stop applying the neosporin at this point unless your vet recommended it. Let this incision stay dry and this will help a scab to form which will finish the healing process faster.
