What's causing my female Golden Doodle's worsening rash and scabs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 50 lbs

Hi! I noticed a skin rash that developed scabs a few weeks later on my female golden doodles private area. It has gotten worse over the past few weeks. Do you know what it is or what treatment to give? Thanks!

Hi and thanks for your request This is likely to be caused by a superficial and mild pyoderma, which is a bacterial infection of the skin. In this case this can be treated at home with some disinfection (hibiscrub diluted with water 1:10 and rubbed gently on the area twice daily) and by discouraging any licking, if any (a buster collar may be needed). No resolution or worsening of the signs in a week time with disinfection requires a check up at your local veterinarian.
