My dog licked a vape pen mouthpiece. Should I worry about toxicity?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My sister has a vape pen, and she let my dog smell and lick the mouthpiece once. It didn't look like there was any residue, but I couldn't see clearly. I have read that these things are very harmful to small dogs, in small quantities. Will this cause my dog any harm?

You are correct that vape pens are dangerous to dogs due to the chemicals in it such as nicotine. Nicotine is absorbed quickly and can be extremely toxic, even in small doses. The most common symptoms of poisoning in dogs are drooling, puking, diarrhea, lethargy, and seizures. If you see any of those signs in Dexter, take him into a vet immediately. Your sister should not do allow him to smell that vape pen or lick it even again, it's not safe. I hope this helps.
